Diana Peter's Technology Showcase

Throughout the past year and a half in the Masters of Arts in Educational Technology program I have learned and grown so much using technology in the classroom.  The following items are showcase of some of my favorite projects throughout my experience.

SIG - FLIPPED - WikiSpace

This work demonstrates my proficiency in creating a wiki space and shows the research conducted on the idea of flipping a classroom.  Both this tool and this education trend are two things that I feel are important to today's education.  Although I do not believe that flipping a classroom is the "end all" to being a successful teacher, in this wiki collaboratively my group and I explain the benefits and procedure for creating a flipped classroom.

Creating an Online Class

This is a sample class that I have created as an online unit for my media arts class.  This course was created in CourseSites, a partner of BlackBoard, and use to be used as a hybrid class as a blended learning tool.  This class meets face-to-face five days a week but has many students working at a different pace. This class setting is a perfect opportunity for students to turn things in as they complete them and stay on track during the class time.  To view my class use the following generic user name and password:

WICKED PROBLEM -MATH WORD PROBLEMS

A “wicked” problem is defined by Koehler and Mishra that teaching with technology should be viewed as a “wicked problem” (Rittel & Weber, 1973) that involves complex, multivariate interdependencies in a context that is always changing.  This type of problem can be found in every disciple at all grade levels in schools, but for myself I am focusing on the middle/high school math classroom. Here you will find both my problem and my solution to the wicked problem of math word problems.

Storybird

This is an example of a digital storybook that I created as an entrance essay to graduate school.  This is an example of how students can use this type of media to relay their own story and use pre-made art to relay their story.  The use of technology creates a professional looking product and has the option to be printed for the students as an actual book.

Creating movies

The use of creating movies is an excellent way to summarize or be creative in showing ideas.  In groups for one of my classes we were asked to make a three minute video on three important concepts from a chapter and three practical implementations of it in the classroom.  My group consisted of the members: Annie Kim, Jeffery Fisher, and Jenna Ewend.  When each group was finished we shared them as a class and created a space where all the chapters were collected.  Our professor, Punya Mishra, then sharred them with the author, Daniel T. Willingham, via twitter.
